Four Things To Look At Before You Order Personalized Wedding Pens.

1. The Type Of Pen

The first and probably the most important thing to think about when deciding on your personalized wedding pens is which type of pen your are going to get customized. The five main types of pens are:

  1. Fountain Pen
  2. Ballpoint Pen
  3. Fiber Tip
  4. Roller Ball
  5. Gel Ink Pen

Each of these types of pens have have their advantages and disadvantages. Fountain pens for instance look absolutely beautiful and create a very nice typography however they can be hard too use and can be messy. Ballpoint pens are reliable and cheap but don’t write as well as a fountain pen. To discuss all the merits and flaws is beyond the scope of this article but we will be publishing an article looking at this very topic soon. For the moment do your diligent research and try out a few different types to see what you like and what you think feels right for your personalized wedding pen.

2. The Price

Another important factor to look at when deciding on your personalized pen is the cost. Cost can roughly be broken down into three factors:

  1. The base cost of the pen.
  2. The cost of getting the pen personalized/customized.
  3. The cost of delivery or related charges.

Different pens will cost different prices and the general rule is the more you pay the better a pen you will get, this is not always the case though and personalized wedding pens are generally more decorative than other types of personalized pens so its writing ability may take second place to its looks and style.

The level of customization you are looking for can also greatly affect the total price. A simple and elegant name printed on the side of the pain is a lot cheaper than a full color printing which in turn is normally cheaper than custom engraving work.

3. The Type Of Personalization

This point was touched upon in the last section but we will revisit it here in a bit more detail. In our opinion the perfect personalized wedding pen is either a fountain pen or a nice steel construction rollerball with the date and names of bride and groom engraved somewhere on the pens body. This can also be the most expensive type of wedding pen and may not suit your budget.

A printed name and dates can be a lot cheaper than this and the effect can be almost as good if suitable colors are chosen for the printing and the pen is of good quality.

Finally for the couple looking just for something to give to guests to keep as a memento plastic pens with cheaper customization can be just what you are looking for, pens with a scrolling message that rotates when clicked are an excellent and humorous keepsake for your guests to remember your perfect day.

4. Packaging for your personalized wedding pen

This is normally reserved for if you have decided to order a very nice or expensive pen. A personalized pen case or box not only helps your guests keep their pen safe and away from damage but it adds that finishing touch to this magnificent gift. Personalized boxes for each guest are also an option but this in turn will raise prices significantly over generic pen cases.

Summary:

Personalized wedding pens can be a great idea and will give your guests something to remember your special day with for the rest of their lives. When executed right your guests will feel like they are treated well and that little bit of customization will be appreciated for many years down the line. Always shop around and don’t be afraid to check out as many online and local retailers/customizers/printers as possible.

The Power of Personalized Pens

While this type of advertising has been around for many years, a lot of people aren’t aware of its power. Due to the fact that pens are fairly expendable, some people assume that they are a poor way of advertising, but this is far from true. Since they are expendable, and often needed, people will nearly always accept a free pen that is given to them. If the name of your business, product, or whatever it is that you are advertising is on this pen, whenever the person uses their pen, they will see the name of your service.

Think back to the many times that someone has asked you to borrow your pen. Chances are you’ve been asked this countless times, which means that your pens have been used by countless people. If your business has personalized pens, they are being seen by more than just the people they are given to, they are also being seen by many of their peers, friends, or associates. When borrowing pens, people will often keep the pen due to its disposable nature, so one personalized pen could find itself in the hands of, and subsequently, in front of the eyes of dozens of different people. When compared to something like a leaflet, personalized pens are vastly superior. Leaflets are often discarded without even one person looking at it, whereas a free pen will always be accepted!

While the previously described disposable nature of personalized pens can be seen as a benefit, some people believe that it is actually a disadvantage, as they can look tacky, and be thrown out immediately. This ultimately comes down to knowing your market. If you are advertising to college students, a very cheap personalized pen will do the job, as they would rather keep your pen than buy one out of their beer money! On the other hand, when dealing with professionals such as Lawyers or Businessman, it is worth the extra money to invest in high quality pens. Many professions require the use of pens all day, so if your pen isn’t aesthetically pleasing, or is of poor quality, they simply won’t use it.

Personalized pens are available in a very large number of different varieties. There are many “presets”, or, pre-designed pens, but there are also a large number of customizable options. Accordingly, the price range for these pens varies drastically, but regardless of your budget, there is most likely a pen that’s right for you.

For example, if you go to any job fair, or information booth, you are almost guaranteed to walk away with a personalized pen. These pens are of very low quality, but they are free, and they do what they’re supposed to do: they write! These are typically purchased in bulk, and are given out to everyone who inquires. On the other hand, if you are a lawyer acquiring personalized pens to give to your colleagues or potential clients, then you would be looking for virtually the exact opposite of the job fair pens. These pens will be made of a high quality material, as opposed to the cheap plastic of the other pens. The color, size, and weight of these pens can be chosen, as well as the actual ink inside.

The type of ink that you have in your personalized pens can be a very important factor in determining the efficacy of your advertising. If the ink is truly horrendous, the pen will likely be thrown away. On the other hand, if the pen has a brilliant ink that shows up properly, writes smoothly, and does not fade, then most people would gladly keep this pen for as long as they can. The color of the ink can be personalized, and must be done with some thought. If one person is making personalized pens for 12 year old girls, and the other is making them for 45 year old professionals, they will have drastically different inks. The children’s pen would most likely have a bright color, such as pink or purple, whereas the professional pen would likely have a bold red, blue, or black color. Children’s pens can also be purchased with “gel” ink, which has a distinct appearance, and is very popular with kids.

So regardless of who you are advertising to, there are personalized pens that will suit your needs. We aren’t saying that they should be they should be your only method of advertising, but if you haven’t considered personalized pens for advertising yet, you’re missing out!

The History of the Personalized Pen

From Ancient Times To Modern Pen

The exact time of the first appearance of an instrument that resembles the pen is disputed among scholars. Some believe the pen was first used by ancient Indian civilizations. They would have used pens largely made from bird feathers and bamboo sticks. Ancient Egyptians are also thought to have developed some kind of pen. They developed a pen made form reeds for writing on papyrus scrolls. Reed pens remained popular for an extremely long amount of time being used right up to the middle ages.

The Quill Pen

The Metal Point Pen

The metal point pen or nib pen is the type which you must dip into ink every few words. It did not contain an inbuilt reservoir of ink. This pen was very popular during the 17th and 18th century as it was cheap to manufacture and provided a better performance than the quill pen. These pens were originally made with copper nibs but after the steep nibbed pen was invented due to its lasting performance and cheap manufacturing cost it proved hugely popular.

The Fountain Pen

early model of the fountain penThe first modern fountain pen was appeared in the 1950′s. Petrache Poenaru a Romanian student in Paris invented the first fountain pen, shortly after the French government patented his original design. It was not until later in the 1800′s that the mass produced fountain pen came into existence and took over from the metal nibbed pen. The huge advantage to the fountain pen was that it contained its own internal reservoir of ink, was portable, refillable and by the standards of the day quite robust and performed well. The fountain pen remained the most used pen up until the first quarter of the 1900′s when it was proceeded by the ballpoint pen.

The BallPoint Pen

The first ballpoint pen was invented by László Bíró, László was a newspaper editor and wanted to use a pen with similar ink to that used in printing newspaper. The advantage to this kind of ink is hat it dries almost instantly as it is applied to paper. How he accomplished this was he used a small steel ball bearing in the point of the pen. As the pen was drawn across the paper the ball rotated and a small amount of ink covered the balls surface, the ink then transferred from the ball onto the paper. Numerous different patents appeared soon after this invention and the modern pen was finally brought into the hands of anyone and everyone. These pens were incredibly cheap to manufacture and had a claimed two year life cycle.

The Personalized Pen

Danish royal familys personalized penThe personalized pen has existed almost as long as the first pens made their debut. One of their first adopters where royalty and people with high positions in society. Often they would commission custom pens to designed and built solely for their own use. For example the Queen of Denmark has her own pen that is not available to buy anywhere in the world. People who wish to buy this personalized pen as a collectors item must receive permission from the royal family itself. Normally though only the royal family and member of the court can own one of these pens.

These days it is normal for any business of a modest size to have not only their own personalized pens but a whole range of stationary from desk calendars to customized pencils. The reasons for this are multiple, it helps to build brand recognition, it serves as free advertising, and it can be a reminder to clients of your brand. Personalized pens can range from cheap disposable pens with a logo printed on it to customized engraved refillable pens that are given only to higher members of staff and managers and valued long term clients.
